Respiratory Therapists

There is a growing demand for respiratory therapists, particularly since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. At Options Staffing 360, we want to help bridge the gap between at-risk communities and health care professionals. We connect job seekers and medical facilities together to fulfill staffing needs.

Clinical Settings

As one of our respiratory therapists, you can find exciting and rewarding jobs in a wide range of settings. While many of our respiratory therapists work in the emergency room or intensive care units, many also work at outpatient clinics, nursing homes, and sleep centers.

Inpatient Therapy

The medical services you can provide as a respiratory therapist depend on the degree of a patient’s illness and condition. A few of the most common procedures our respiratory therapists assist with during inpatient therapy are:

  • Tracheal intubation
  • Monitoring the breathing and vital signs of patients on ventilators
  • Checking oxygen levels through blood tests
  • Provide medications via inhalers or mist
  • Expanding the lungs or clearing mucus from airways
  • Testing how well patients can breathe

Outpatient Therapy

Patients with chronic pulmonary conditions need help from their respiratory therapists to understand their disorders better, master management techniques, and learn what symptoms signal an emergency.

Outpatient therapy may include the following:

  • Rehabilitation from debilitating conditions
  • Surgery recovery
  • Preparation for surgery or lung transplant

As a respiratory therapist on our team, you can apply your expertise by aiding doctors with patient diagnostics and designing treatment plan options to improve health outcomes.

Specializations

Jobs for respiratory therapists can vary widely by specialization. Some of these opportunities include:

  • Polysomnography
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Neonatal or pediatric care
  • Geriatric care
  • Home care

Education and Certification

Higher education requirements for respiratory therapist jobs include obtaining either a Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s degree. All states (except for Alaska) require respiratory therapists to become certified and obtain a state license. For specialized settings, such as pediatric care, additional licensing is necessary.

Skills

Aside from specialized medical training, our respiratory therapists must possess several qualities and skills to succeed:

  • The ability to work well under pressure
  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Quick problem-solving

Career Opportunities

With such a versatile range of work settings, there are abundant job opportunities for respiratory therapists within our network. In addition, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts that jobs in this field will grow faster than the average for many other fields. By 2030, the BLS projects that jobs for respiratory specialists will increase by 23%.

The CDC
estimates that 1 in 7 adults in the United States suffers from a respiratory illness. Respiratory therapists thus represent a crucial component of the medical industry and will likely continue to be key players in helping patients manage their pulmonary conditions.
